Fractional General Counsel Plans for Food & Beverage Brands
Zero attrition since 2018 among our clients doing $10M+ a year. Some have been with us since the day we launched the subscription model. Predictable cost, embedded counsel, and a relationship that sticks — that is what these plans buy.
A fractional general counsel gives a food or beverage company the embedded legal expertise of an in-house lawyer, on a flat monthly fee, without the overhead of a full-time hire. Choose the tier that matches how often legal questions come up in your business.
Plans & pricing
Each plan is a flat monthly fee — no six-minute increments, no surprise invoices. The right tier depends on your legal cadence and company size.

- Emails and unscheduled calls are replied to as soon as possible.
- Specific questions that arise on a call sometimes require additional research where answers are not immediately available.
- Subscribers are notified at least 7 days in advance of any scheduled unavailability, or as soon as possible for anything unscheduled.
What Happens During Busy Months?
Some months require more legal attention than others. Product launches, acquisitions, recalls, retailer disputes, employment issues, and regulatory problems rarely arrive on a predictable schedule. We do not maintain an internal monthly hour target that automatically triggers a rate increase if a client has a particularly busy month. We expect our clients’ legal needs to fluctuate, and occasional periods of heavy utilization are a normal part of the relationship. Our objective is not to maximize revenue from temporary spikes in legal activity. Our objective is to build long-term relationships with growing food businesses. If a client needs extra attention during a difficult month, we generally view that as part of the value of the subscription model, not as an opportunity to revisit pricing. On rare occasions, a business grows to the point where its legal needs consistently exceed the level of engagement a particular plan was designed to support. If that happens, we will have a candid conversation about whether a different tier makes sense. In practice, those conversations are uncommon. Most clients settle into a plan that fits their business and remain there for years.
Is a subscription the right model for you?
If your legal needs are occasional and project-based, our traditional flat-fee & hourly billing may be the better fit. If legal is continuous — recurring contracts, label cadence, multi-state compliance — a plan almost always costs less than the un-budgeted hourly variance it replaces. Our budgeting for legal counsel page shows the math against industry benchmarks.
